Meeting Minutes: 01/06/2025

Happy New Year!

The new year started out well as our first club meeting for 2025 was held on Monday January 6 at Fundemonium. We had a great turnout with 22 members attending to enjoy a great meeting and fun get together.

  • President Dean Wallace started the meeting by:
    1. Reminding folks that the IPMS Santa Rosa holiday party will be held on January 11 from 6 to 9 pm at Mountain Mike’s in Rohnert Park. Wrapped “White Elephant” gifts valued at a minimum of $25 (more valuable gifts are ok too!) will be exchanged. The evening is sure to be lively with up to 3 steals permitted.
    2. Reporting that club members will car pool together for the next local model show which is the Dragon Lady Modelers Yuba City “Dragon Fest 2025 Model Expo” on Saturday January 18, 2025 at the Hope Nazarene Church in Yuba City.
    3. Announcing that the contest theme for the next group build will be “Wings” meaning any model that has or is in some way associated with wings. Creative ideas have started. Besides any type of airplane, falling within the theme will be cars with “wings” and spoilers, ships such as aircraft carriers, submarines (hydroplanes) or with wing sails. Perhaps someone will build the famed Soviet “winged tank.” The group build will conclude at the club meeting in June 2025.
  • We collected the annual $30 club dues from many members. Thank you if you have paid and for those who have not, please make your payment promptly. If you prefer to pay your dues online there is a link to do so on the club website under the ‘About’ tab. Or, just click this Web Store link!
  • The accolades for our Evolution themed 2024 model show continue to come in, including for the fantastic “Best Of” trophies the club presented at the show. Model Car Magazine has approached us and asked that we submit an article highlighting these trophies and the history of the incredible trophies the club has done for its shows over the years. Chris Zanella has graciously agreed to write the article and Jack Riggar will contribute photos from his archives.
  • With the start of the year, each member gave their modeling related New Year’s Resolution for 2025. There were some great ones. Many members are planning on trying out new modeling techniques or genres, others want to finish more and it sounded like Mike Vice has committed to actually finishing a model in 2025. Certainly, the common theme of the resolutions was to have fun and build more in 2025!
  • We had a fantastic Show and Tell session with high participation. Once again, some great work was shown off by our club members. The highlight was Jack Riggar dusting off and sharing his incredible armour diorama that won 2nd at Nationals a number of years back and sharing his build history photos on the screen. Wow – what an effort that project was!
  • This month’s new product report was about the inexpensive foam plugs for painting aircraft wheel wells being made by OMask, a Czech company. https://www.omask.eu A great solution for the lazy aircraft modeler.
  • Our meeting culminated as always with a significant group joining for post-meeting food and libations at nearby Applebee’s.
